Historic Strathalbyn's first hospital was established in 1905 as a small cottage hospital, to meet the needs of a growing rural town and district community. From these humble beginnings nearly 100 years ago, a modern health service comprising over 90 beds has evolved.
The Health Service incorporates a public hospital, residential aged care and a day centre, to meet the increased needs of a growing community.
The Health Service is conveniently located in the centre of Strathalbyn, in a quiet picturesque rural setting overlooking the Angus River and historic StAndrew's Church.
HOSPITAL
Medical services provided by the 28 bed hospital include acute medical, surgical, fast-stream rehabilitation, gerontic and palliative care. In addition, a 24 hour casualty and accident and emergency service is available with medical support provided by general practitioners from Strathalbyn Clinic and assisted by ambulance support from the SA Ambulance Service (Strathalbyn Branch).
DAY CARE
The Reg Sissons Memorial Day Centre offers a variety of craft and other activities to community clients and residents from the aged care facility. Community clients are referred by their local GP. Those clients living within the town boundary are assisted with transport to and from day care if required.
RESIDENTIAL AGED CARE
Aged Care services provide for permanent and respite care of the frail aged in a comfortable and caring environment.
Care is provided to residents requiring high, low or dementia level of care.
A comprehensive Diversional Therapy Programme is offered to residents, with emphasis on community, school and church involvement.
Community volunteer participation is encouraged.
